While Nissan’s American arm was debuting the new-for-2014 Rogue crossover, its European arm was unveiling the all-new X-Trail at this year’s Frankfurt auto show. OK, so it’s the Rogue with a more woodsy name, but the crossover will be sold in some 190 markets globally and the X-Trail badge is well known in many of them.

The Rogue had previously been loosely twinned with the X-Trail (as well as the Qashqai), sharing a basic architecture, but now they’re the same vehicle. Just as it did with the ’14 Rogue, Nissan declined to provide powertrain details, but the X-Trail will come with the same new tech features (Active Engine Brake, Active Ride Control, and Active Trace Control), and the rest of the script reads largely the same. One difference: We do expect that the 2014 X-Trail will be offered with diesel power when it goes on sale in non-U.S. markets starting in July of next year.
