August 8: British racing legend Nigel Mansell was born on this date in 1953

There are three things all race fans should know about Nigel Mansell, the most successful British Formula 1 driver ever. He's the only driver to hold both the F1 title and the CART (now IndyCar) titles at the same time, in 1991. Despite famously battling with team owners and teammates, Mansell offered help when needed, giving Ayrton Senna a ride back to the pits after Mansell won the British Grand Prix in 1991. And in 1984, struggling for every potential point, Mansell pushed his car across the finish line of the Dallas Grand Prix and promptly collapsed from the 104-degree heat. It's like watching a "Successories" poster come to life:
