June 27: ’69 Cadillac DeVille was impounded by the NYPD during the Stonewall Rebellion on this date in 1969

A timely anniversary in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act: On this date -- June 27, 1969 -- the New York City Police Department raided the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street in New York City, touching off an angry backlash from gay patrons in what would become known as the Stonewall Rebellion, which The New York Times describes as "a defining moment in the history of the gay rights movement." Today, the blue 1969 Cadillac DeVille convertible pictured above -- the only car impounded by police during the three-day civil action -- has become a fixture of gay pride parades.
