2014 Toyota 4Runner Pricing Announced, Starts at $33,680

2014 Toyota 4Runner Pricing

The 2014 Toyota 4Runner arrives this month with midcycle enhancements including a refreshed exterior, interior refinements, and a slightly higher base price. The new 4Runner starts at $33,680 for the rear-wheel-drive SR5, an increase of $1330 from 2013. Prices for the SR5 went up while prices for the mid-range Trail model went down (by $1430) to $36,585.

On the options front, there’s a new $2920 Premium package for the SR5 and Trail that includes navigation, premium audio, a sunroof, power seats, electrochromic mirror, Homelink, and a 120-volt outlet in the cargo area. For those who want it all, there’s the Limited, priced at $42,225 for the rear-wheel-drive version and $44,260 for the four-wheel-drive version.

The front end receives the most notable styling changes: All models get a redesigned fascia and grille with angled projector beam headlamps. The Limited gets a chrome grille insert and chrome bumper, while the SR5 and Trail models go Angry Birds with an open-mouthed grille and frowning fascia. Attention getting they are; attractive, however, remains open for debate. At  the rear, the new LED taillamps are a handsome addition. Moving to the passenger cabin, the interior gets more soft-touch materials, a new instrument cluster, and a multifunction display housing Toyota’s Entune multimedia system. A JBL premium audio system is standard on Limited.

Now in its fifth generation, the 4Runner is one of the last mid-size crossovers to offer body-on-frame construction. Also available are a locking differential and separate transfer case for four-wheel-drive models; both of those features are a rarity in the market, too. All 4Runnners come equipped with a 270-hp, 4.0-liter V-6 engine and a five-speed automatic transmission. There are two-wheel drive, part-time all-wheel-drive or full-time all-wheel-drive versions available; a third-row seat is offered on SR5 and Limited models. The 4Runner still has a lot to offer, although time will tell whether people buy it because of its new look, or in spite of it.
