Nissan’s Juke is strange. The compact crossover has strange styling, it’s a strange size, and it uses a strange—among its competitive set—turbocharged engine and torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system. In fact, it is so strange, that we sort of like it. Automotive uniqueness is getting harder and harder to come by in today’s segmented, conformist industry. So imagine our surprise when Nissan released a mini video series in Japan that plays up, you guessed it, the Juke’s strangeness; utilizing some of Hollywood’s best-known conformists, Star Wars’ Storm Troopers.

The videos consist mostly of a group of Storm Troopers, who were sent to Earth (Japan, specifically) to report on a disturbance in the force. They are instructed by a holographic Darth Vader to act like robots, but amusingly, the Troopers find that even many of the humans they encounter act a lot like robots. A few of the clips feature a bright red Juke with a white racing stripe, which seemingly comes out of nowhere to catch the Troopers by surprise, eliciting longing (at least that’s what it looks like—the Troopers’ eyes are, of course, hidden behind their helmets) stares and a strange flash of red light. By the final video in the series, a few of the Troopers dare to be different—we won’t give away how—which clearly is a plot development Nissan wants buyers to see. The lesson? It’s good to be different. And in the Juke’s case, we’d say different is pretty darn good. You can watch the Japanese videos below. Now, can we have the Juke R, please?
