For roughly $4,740,000, on May 9, 1950, SEAT car company was founded on Spanish soil by the Instituto Nacional de Industria - a state-ownded industrial holding company. Situated in Martorell, near Barcelona, by 1956 SEAT was producing over 10,000 vehicles per year - a daily output of around 42 cars. By the turn of the 21st century, SEAT's annual production tipped 500,000. Now part of the Volkswagen empire, SEAT produces such cars as the Leon and the successful Ibiza throughout most of the world - not, however, in the U.S. - and angles sales towards the coveted younger demographic. Following that trend, SEAT has always had a strong motorsport presence, boasting success on the gravel in rallying, as well as competing in the World Touring Car Championship with its Leon race car. Just a few days back, on May 5, SEAT revealed its latest Leon Cup Racer (pictured below) targeting the customer racer with its manageable 330 hp, prior to unveiling its latest hardcore protagonist for the pros. Building trendy, good-looking cars across the pond, this date merely showcases what most in the U.S. may never set eyes upon: A SEAT in the flesh.
