Fifty-nine years ago today -- June 7, 1954 -- Ford formed the team that would design the Edsel, a commercial flop that became the poster child for bad automotive design (until GM formed the Pontiac Aztek's design team some 45 years later, that is). The car certainly didn't fail in the marketplace due to lack of promotion, as evidenced by the one-hour television special Ford produced called "The Edsel Show," featuring Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Rosemary Clooney and other stars.
