Recall: 57,000 more Honda Fit models for stability control

Honda is recalling an additional 57,009 Fit hatchbacks to update software for the stability control, the automaker said late Thursday.

In April, Honda recalled the 2012-2013 Fit Sport in the United States and Canada due to a stability control system that allowed the car to skid at a greater angle than allowed by federal requirements. At the time, Honda said just 45,782 Sport models were affected due to that trim level's larger wheels and tires, but now the automaker is recalling the base models to fix the same problem. A total of 91,920 models are affected in the United States, with the rest in Canada, Honda said.

Honda dealers will reprogram the stability control software beginning in August. Owners can find out more at www.recalls.honda.com or by calling Honda at 1-800-999-1009.

Older Fits were also recalled a second time due to an original fix that didn't work. In June, Honda recalled nearly 686,000 cars worldwide to fix window switches that could melt and cause fires, including 143,083 Honda Fit models from 2007-2008. The same Fit hatchbacks were recalled in 2010 for driver-side power window switches that could allow liquid to seep through and cause a short, which could then overheat and cause the switch to melt or start fires within the door.

An additional 1,695 Accord models from 2013 are being recalled in the United States and Canada for fuel tanks that can leak. The connection at the top of the tank may not be sealed properly, Honda said. Dealers will replace the tanks starting in August. Again, owners can find out more at www.recalls.honda.com or by calling Honda at 1-800-999-1009.
