Infiniti to Introduce Q30 Concept at Frankfurt Auto Show

Although the premium-compact segment has been somewhat of the redheaded stepchild in the U.S., it continues to be an important cog in the wheel of European sales. Consider that Audi offers the A3 with three doors or without a roof (in addition to the five-door we get at present), BMW sells a hatchback variant of the 1-series, and Mercedes peddles something called an A-class—that’s the hatchback version of our soon-to-arrive CLA. It’s no wonder, then, that Infiniti will debut its Q30 concept—which CEO Johan de Nysschen says “underpins our aggressive global growth strategy”—in Frankfurt this September.

  • Instrumented Test: 2013 Infiniti FX37 AWD
  • Comparison Test: 2012 BMW 328i vs. Audi A4, Infiniti G25, Mercedes-Benz C250, Volvo S60
  • Comparison Test: 2012 Audi TT RS vs. 2011 BMW 1-series M Coupe, 2011 Infiniti IPL G Coupe

The Q30 concept previews a forthcoming production model that Infiniti says is the first to receive input from the brand’s director of performance, Sebastian Vettel, from the model’s inception. Apart from that allusion to performance, Nissan’s luxury arm isn’t saying much more about the Q30 just yet—well, apart from the fact that its styling is inspired by “speedy big cats, like cheetahs.”

We’ll have full information on Infiniti’s new compact concept when the car bows in Frankfurt on September 10.
