Automobile Bling: Express Yourself with Car Flair

Between tattoos, fashion and hairstyles, people have a lot of options when it comes to expressing themselves. If you’re looking for a fun cheap way to show off your personality, interests or accomplishments on the road, you might want to look into car decorations. Forgo the suction cup Garfield doll and fuzzy dice; there are far more original alternatives.

Bumper stickers

Bumper stickers are a classic method for gussying up your gas-guzzler. Inexpensive and full of personality, they are a quick and easy way to express yourself with your car. Some people are loud and proud, expressing their politics on their bumper. Others keep it less controversial with stickers showcasing their favorite sports, musical artists or alma mater. Of course, there’s also the always classic “Proud Parent of an Honor Roll Student” sticker. So however you decide to go – serious, silly or even angry – it’s easy to get creative with bumper stickers.

Rudolph

There’s Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, but motorists chose to dress up their cars as Rudolph this past holiday season. The latest trend is sticking antlers and an iconic red nose on your car to show the world you are feeling the Christmas spirit. The Rudolph look is perfect for families who want a fun change without the commitment of a super-sticky bumper sticker. Kids love the whimsy and adults like that this is an inexpensive way to celebrate the holidays. This popular trend is taking the roadways by (snow)storm. Cruise around in your four-wheeled reindeer next Christmas and you might find that you’re not the only Rudolph in the mall parking lot.

Family decals
Before Rudolph, there were the family decals. Around summer 2011, stick figures began cropping up on rear windows across the country. These simple stickers usually come in white and depict smiling families. Some parents just want to show off their kids, while some are a good way to express love for certain hobbies. The decals are available in a variety of styles, some depicting cheerleaders, soccer players and yogis. No matter what your favorite pastime is, there’s a good chance you can find a sticker that suits it.

Vanity plates

Sometimes these plates are exactly what their name implies – with license plate numbers ranging from “2CUTE” to “HOTSTUFF,” some drivers have no problem boasting. If you’re looking for a flashy way to show off your assets or talents, a vanity plate might be the way to go. Unfortunately, this kind of car flair can be a little pricey. A personalized license plate can set you back by as much as $100 in some states. Contact your local DMV to learn more about pricing. States like New Mexico and Virginia offer vanity plates for far less than places such as Washington, D.C., and Connecticut.

People are always looking for new ways to separate themselves from the rest of the herd. Decorating your car is a great way to get noticed. Get creative and make your automobile your canvas. With a little ingenuity, your wheels will be the hottest thing to hit the highway.
