According to a report in Automotive News, Cadillac is working on the first major revision of its logo in a decade. The report quotes several unnamed sources as saying that the redesign will eliminate the “classic laurel wreaths that surround its crest,” and will “likely appear on concept vehicle Cadillac plans to show next month at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.”
When reached for comment, Cadillac told C/D, “Design work is continuously being done on a lot of fronts, and we are fortunate that we have a creative group of designers passionate about the brand, but there are no changes coming for the 2014 model year.” We were also told that the new logo “may or may not” appear on the concept to be shown next month in Pebble Beach. It also was pointed out that the logo has been altered at least 39 times, and the wreaths have come and gone from the logo as it has evolved over the brand’s history. Additionally, there have been times when several different versions of the logo appeared on the same car.

Automotive News also quotes its sources as saying that the plan was prompted in part by negative feedback from potential customers, adding, “The wreath is seen as outdated and obsolete,” and speculates that a single-piece logo would give designers more freedom to play with the positioning of the badge.
