On Monday, we presented this week’s shifter and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle whence it came. The presence of Toyota’s fairly standard-issue truck shift knob design tipped several of you off as to this shifter’s origin, but the first commenter to correctly identify it as a 2007 FJ Cruiser’s stick was James T. He will receive a Save the Manuals button and sticker as a reward.
The FJ pictures you see here are from Toyota’s press materials, but we pitted one against its off-road-ready SUV competition in a 2006 comparison test. Essentially a Tacoma underneath, the FJ packaged retro looks with tough, proven four-wheel-drive hardware. It placed third in that comparo, behind the Nissan Xterra and Jeep Grand Cherokee—and ahead of the now-discontinued Hummer H3—but we adored its available six-speed manual and plain steel wheels.
